  a brother was appointed recently in the cong, he's got a dodgy history, doesn't really have the respect of many in the cong.

  it's surprising to me, but i don't really care, good for him.

  my wife, on the other hand, is angry!

  Tricky, of course there is no pretence of Holy Spirit being involved any more. The CS does the appointment, it is no longer rubber stamped at Bethel, they are not even informed. I think the way to go is to drop little facts like those in and let them fester. Incidentally we had one poor sod appointed as an elder and then removed within 10 days. Not much evidence of spirit there.

  You don't have to mention the HS, just the new system fo appointment , let her work it out for herself. She may tell you what you are trying to tell her.

  the jw widow was having a lot of trouble paying her bills and the family was poor.

  she had a visit from 2 elders who sat down with her and discussed her situation.

  i had originally thought that making the rules clear about what was and wasn't going to be allowed when discussing the michael brown verdict that we'd be able to avoid some of the unpleasantness that surrounded the subsequent trayvon martin trial discussions.. michael brown verdict discussion policy.

  i had hoped that once the evidence came out there would not be as many people promoting opinions that contradicted it.

  unfortunately, that appears to have been naive of me.

  Shoplifting shouldn't end in death.

  Surely, that is a gross over simplification of the facts. There was a lot that went down between the theft and the conclusion of the incident.

  if a person gives a police report of a traumatic event, but later changes their facts during cross-examination, these changes are used to impeach the honesty of the witness.. this impeachment flows from a logical understanding facts must match reality without contradiction.. lets examine the history of the watchtower corporations leaders with a view to the harmony of.

  I think it is just a case of Freddy having read Hislop's book. The "Babylon" book of (I think) 1963 was a massive tome that quoted and plagiarized "The Two Babylons". The book had chapter after chapter exploring pagan origins of almost anything you could think of up to and including wedding rings.

  I have no direct knowledge as to who wrote the book but have little doubt that it was F.W.Franz. Whoever it was we know that they had spent the previous months reading and digesting Alexander Hislop's hateful rant.

  do other religions change doctrines like the wt society does?

  i just wondered.

  i mean ok, the catholic church seems to make 'adjustments' more or less , by accepting previously held prejudices.

  against certain things, like gays, or birth control, or rather tolerate it more, but is that a genuine change of doctrine?.

  Nobody changes doctries like the WT, nobody. Its like walking on Jello. Adherents have to read the latest literature to find out what they believe.

  are jw immigrant increasing in your area

  i bumped into a sister a while back, who was a law-student, immigration law.. .

  at the time, i thought that it was unusual for a jw to be so open about going to uni.. after going through cdn jw court cases though, the highest percentage of cases involve foreign jw's claiming refugee status.. is this part of their growth strategy?.

  africans who become jw's get strategic assistance to claim refugee status in western countries?.

  There are some amazing stories. We have a guy in our cong.who came here (the UK) through the most incredible hardships, arrived here a few years ago. He went to University, got a good degree and is now doing his masters. He is probably the best educated person in our circuit. He only made one mistake, he got indoctinated on the way.

  I would love to gve you more details but the fingerprint is too specific.

  No longer to use "house to house record" slips and "please follow up slips"!

  a letter has just been read out indicating that effective immediately, witnesses are no longer to use the s-8 slip known as the "house to house" record slip, as well as the s-43 "please follow up" slip (usually used for foreign language people).. the letter stated that this is because of the changes in privacy laws etc that are becoming common in the world today.. i will try and get a copy of the full letter and post it asap.. .

  Once again we are twirling around like whirling dervishes. In the UK using these forms was banned for years due to the Data Protection Act, we had instuctions that these notes should be kept but only on ou own paper. That way we the publisher would go to court, not the society.

  Then maybe two years ago without explanation or notification the slips appeared again back in the hall and are in general use. Now it seems they will disapear again. Just another example of the paranoia that drives the organisation currently. They do everything but address the real elephants in the room, a proper child protection policy and the blood quagmire.
